Frequently Asked Questions

ARE YOU MOBILE?

Yes! We are a fully mobile media blasting service provider. Our trailer unit is completely self contained and requires no external connections to operate unless certain projects demand excessive water. We can bring the the blaster right to your door or commercial location.

DUSTLESS BLASTING vs DRY BLASTING

The dustless media blasting system works by mixing water and abrasive inside the blast tank under compressed air. By introducing water we're drastically increasing mass and energy the machine is putting out, while eliminating dust. Although dustless blasting is dust free, it is not free from post service cleaning to remove used media and a small amount of water. Using this method on ferrous metals will require a rust inhibitor and additional rinsing. The best application for this method is concrete or similar surfaces.

Dry media blasting, as the name suggests, utilizes compressed air and abrasive to clean and strip a wide variety of surfaces. Dry blasting is preferred in most cases do to it's lower cost and quicker post blast clean-up. DRY BLASTING DOES NOT CAUSE WARPING, bad blasting techniques do. Using the correct pressure, abrasive and operator experience prevents warping and excessive substrate damage.

WHAT KIND OF MEDIA DO YOU USE?

The most effective media for wet/dry media blasting is recycled crushed glass. This media is enviromentally friendly and cheap compared to other media types such as sand, garnet and soda. We only use the harder media types when needed. This allows us to pass substantial savings on to you!

SINCE YOU USE WATER, WILL IT RUST METAL?

When blasting metals that are susceptible to rust or corrosion we add a rust inhibitor to the blast tank or include it in the final rinse spray down. This inhibitor works very well to prevent flash over rusting. This protection is good for up to 72 hours if the object is kept dry and away from high humidity. We recommend painting the surface as soon as possible with a sealer or primer to protect the rust free surface.

HOW DO YOU CLEAN UP AFTER BLASTING?

When blasting with water, the glass media is heavier than when dry blasting. This causes the media to settle to the ground quickly and keeps the contaminated area small. Dry blasting disperses the media over a wider area and is easier to dispose of directly after blasting. Most customers choose to clean up the area themselves to lower the project cost.

WILL BLASTING CAUSE WARPING OR DAMAGE?

Yes, all blasting methods can warp or damage surfaces if the operator does not follow proper procedures. We set our blast machine based on the surface thickness, hardness and amount of material to be removed. There are situations were blasting is NOT the best option for our customer. We will recommend other options.

SINCE YOU ARE MOBILE, HOW FAR WILL YOU TRAVEL?

Our office is located west of Grove City Ohio. We are indeed fully mobile so there is no need to come to us. We service all of central Ohio including Columbus, Grove City, Hilliard, Dublin, Worthington, Powell, Westerville, New Albany, Gahanna, Groveport and surrounding counties.  We try our best to group the appointments based on location so we can keep your cost low. Our travel time is factored into our estimates to be fair to all of our great customers.

MEDIA BLASTING VS POWER WASHING?

There really is no comparison between dry/wet blasting and power washing. Power washing has its place as an aid to speed cleaning surfaces from dirt and light contaminates. Media blasting is used for paint stripping, corrosion removal, surface preparation, hardened material removal and many more stripping applications.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Obviously, this is the question that everyone wants an easy answer to. Unfortunately, there is no formula or per hour rate to use. Each job is specific to the site, material, distance traveled, size and many more factors. In general, it comes down to time. The time required for the blaster to be running and the time needed for prep and clean up play a major role in price. The reason I do it this way is simple, I don't want to over charge for easy jobs or under charge for hard ones. Estimates are free and can usually be done with pictures and a conversation.
